foundational design studio ii is an introductory hybrid studio course, which utilizes the topic of housing as a gateway into the field of architecture. it takes on the suburban context as the environment to be intervened in and studied as it is the most common, as well as familiar, housing condition in the united states and one that is in need of attention. the course looks at models of dwelling that evolve from what we have now, but question what we need in the future with the goal of illustrating the complexity of the built environment and the interconnectedness of design with everything else that happens in the world.
the course was written and built for the academy of art univeristy. it went live in the fall of 2026.
